The annual dredging of the Santa Cruz Harbor (CA) is in full swing now, with the 16″ dredger Twin Lakes operating in the area.

According to the port office, the Twin Lakes started dredging the federal entrance channel on Monday, November 13, 2017.

“ Entrance dredging operations will continue through April 2018. All material will be disposed of on the beach or through the offshore pipeline,” reported the port. “The disposal area is condensed due to the County of Santa Cruz Twin Lakes Beachfront Improvement project, which is currently underway. ”

The port added that the typical dredge schedule is Mondays – Thursdays, with maintenance performed on Fridays. During the dredging operations, boaters need to pass Twin Lakes on the east side (Crow’s Nest side) of the channel unless otherwise marked.

In the notice, Santa Cruz Port District also announced that the North harbor dredging began on October 16, 2017, in the X-J channel area and culvert area using Twin Lakes, and will continue for the remainder of the season using Squirt, and the Port District’s submersible Toyo pump.

The dredging window ends on February 28, 2018, for material comprised of less than 80% sand, and continues through April 30, 2018, for material greater than 80% sand, in accordance with the Port District’s permits.
