Japan’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports dropped by 2.3 percent in October year-on-year, according to the provisional data released by the country’s Ministry of Finance.
The world’s largest buyer of the chilled fuel imported 6.14 million mt of LNG last month as compared to 6.28 million mt in October 2016.
Japan paid about $2.5 billion for LNG imports in October, a rise of 15.5 percent year-on-year.
The country’s coal imports for power generation also dropped in October by 0.8 percent to 9.93 million mt, the data showed.
To remind, the average price of spot LNG imported into Japan that was contracted in October was at $8.2 per mmBtu, rising 18.8 percent from September and reaching an eight-month high.
The arrival-based price has also shown an increase from $5.8 per mmBtu in September to $6.1 per mmBtu last month.
