Russian giant Gazprom and the Hague-based Shell have discussed the strategic cooperation in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector during a meeting in St. Petersburg on Monday.

The two companies, led by Gazprom chairman Alexey Miller and Maarten Wetselaar, member of Shell’s executive committee, put special focus on the construction project for the third train of the Sakhalin II LNG plant.

In addition, the two parties discussed the progress of the joint study framework agreement for the Baltic LNG project, Gazprom said in a statement.

The meeting also touched on the Nord Stream 2 project, the statement reads.

Both companies own a stake in Sakhalin Energy, a company operating the Sakhalin ii facility that last year produced 10.9 million tons of LNG.

Since 2015, the Gazprom and Shell have been working on adding a third liquefaction train to the facility.

In addition, in June 2017, the two companies agreed to set up a joint venture in order to develop the Baltic LNG project with a 10 mtpa capacity in the port of Ust-Luga, Leningrad Region.
