China’s imports of LNG are continuing to rise and they were up 95.7 percent in October year-on-year as the country is pursuing its plan to cut addiction to coal to reduce pollution and companies boost imports of the fuel ahead of the winter heating season.

The world’s largest energy consumer imported 3.57 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) last month. This is the country’s second-highest monthly LNG import number ever, according to the General Administration of Customs data.

China recorded a monthly LNG import record of 3.7 million mt in December last year.

In the January-October period, LNG imports rose 47.9 percent to 29.09 million mt with most of the supplies coming from Australia and Qatar.
