Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway has inspected Statoil’s planned adoption of insulation requirements for avoiding corrosion under insulation (CUI) in Johan Sverdrup Phase II.
The objective of the audit was to investigate compliance with the regulatory requirements for insulation and potential future problems with corrosion under insulation, PSA explained.
During the audit, PSA made observations relating to holistic thinking in management of the work, choice of materials, need for insulation, standardization, framework agreement with insulation supplier and competence and continuity.
The project is in the planning (FEED) phase and a decision on implementing and submitting a plan for development and operation (PDO) is scheduled for Autumn 2018.
The Phase II development is a planned necessary continuation of Johan Sverdrup Phase I and consists of a processing facility and major modifications to the riser facility that include a development for power from onshore.
Production start for Phase II is scheduled for 2022, and the field has an estimated lifetime of 50 years.
