U.S. major ExxonMobil has evacuated non-essential staff from its Hides gas conditioning plant in Papua New Guinea due to the unrests in the area.
However, operations at the facility that processes natural gas before delivering it via a pipeline to the PNG LNG export plant continued, the company told Reuters. The company said one of its employees was abducted but later released.
LNG World News contacted ExxonMobil for comment, however, no response has been received by the time this article was published.
The unrests sprung up in the area as a reaction to the issues with the election process earlier in the year as well as disputes over royalties from the PNG LNG project.
Partner in the project, Oil Search, said operations have not been impacted, with its staff working without interruptions.
