The Argentine Navy has informed that a noise detected near the last known position of the missing ARA San Juan submarine was consistent with the explosion.

The data about the explosion was given to the Argentine Navy by the United States after having analyzed the information about hydroacoustic events supplied by several survey agencies.

Argentinian officials have briefed relatives of the crew members, who gathered at the Navy base, after hearing about the explosion.

The news about the explosion comes just days after the Navy informed that the search has entered into a critical stage due to the shortage of oxygen supply made to last for seven to ten days, and the search is entering the tenth day.

The submarine was traveling from a base in Argentina’s Tierra del Fuego archipelago to its home base in Mar del Plata when it went missing with 44 crew onboard.

The search continues over the 480 square kilometers search area.
