Gasum, the Finnish energy gas company has set plans to expand its LNG fueling station network to Sweden and Norway during 2018.

The company is entering the Swedish and Norwegian traffic sectors with a focus on liquefied gas for heavy-duty vehicles, in order to facilitate the switch from diesel to either LNG or liquefied biogas (LBG), Gasum said in a statement.

The upcoming stations will be positioned to strategically relevant locations, expanding the operating range of LNG powered trucks even further in the Nordic countries, Gasum said, adding that it believes LNG to be the future fuel for heavy transport.

The expansion of LNG fueling stations in Europe is boosting the development of the market as well as infrastructure.

During the last year, Gasum has expanded the LNG fueling station network in Finland, where the company has opened stations in Helsinki, Turku and Jyväskylä, and a new station will be opened in Vantaa by the end of November.

Gasum is also involved in opening an LNG import terminal in Tornio, Finland, which widens the distribution of LNG to an even larger area.
