The Korean Coast Guard has ordered a Saab Seaeye Falcon remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for undersea investigations and research.
The order follows the sinking of the MV Sewol ferry in 2014, resulting in the deaths of 304 passengers, that generated a need for more response resources including underwater robotic vehicles.
“The Falcon was chosen for its renown reliability and Saab Seaeye’s international reputation,” Korean Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard’s 300 meter-rated version of the Falcon comes complete with advanced iCON behaviour-based intelligent control architecture that makes station-keeping possible and enables fine position adjustment to reduce the operator’s workload.
Its surface control console display is translated into Korean and features customisable graphic user interface and an ability to record video and still images, the company explained.
