Pakistan’s National Assembly Standing Committee on Planning and Development was informed that 1200 MW LNG-based power plants at Balloki and Haveli Bahadur Shah will be functional by February next year.
The two projects are being developed by the state-run National Power Parks Management Company.
The 1223 MW Balloki combined-cycle gas-fired power plant utilizes two General Electric gas turbines, one steam turbine and associated equipment running on regassified LNG, with high-speed diesel being the backup fuel.
The Haveli Bahadur Shah power plant will have the same power production capacity of 1230. The first phase of the project, with 760 MW production capacity, has already been inaugurated in July.
Pakistan, a country plagued by power shortages, expects its LNG imports to surpass 30 million tons as the country aims to support the gas-fired power production capacity. The country recently inaugurated its second FSRU-based LNG import terminal that will provide 750 million standard cubic feet per day to the national grid.
