Following a recent letter of intent, Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine has officially secured the contract to build the hull for Statoil’s Johan Castberg FPSO.

Statoil and Sembcorp Marine signed the letter of intent back in November. Statoil has earlier this week filed the plan for the Johan Castberg field development to the Norwegian authorities, after which it awarded several contracts, including the one to Sembcorp Marine.

As part of the contract worth $490 million Sembcorp Marine will build the hull and livin quarters for a newbuild floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO).

Worth noting, Sembcorp Marine has, in turn, hired Norway’s Aker Solutions to design the living quarters for the FPSO.

Apart from the LQ design, Aker Solutions earlier this week won contracts from Statoil to supply the subsea production system for Johan Castberg and design the FPSO’s topside.

To be deployed at the Johan Castberg field development in the Barents Sea, about 240 kilometers from Hammerfest, Norway, the FPSO will have a hull approximately 55m wide and 295m long. It will be self-contained for harsh-environment operation, with living quarters accommodating up to 140 personnel.

The project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2020, Sembcorp Marine said.
