Minesto has appointed Leask Marine for the installation of the supporting components and systems for Deep Green tidal energy project in Holyhead Deep, off the coast of North West Wales.

Orkney-based marine renewables services provider Leask Marine will perform three significant balance of plant components installation and hook-up for the Swedish tidal energy developer Minesto.

The work includes the installation of concrete gravity base foundation structure, buoy containing a micro grid and communications system, and power transfer fastening comprising the top joint, tether, bottom joint and subsea umbilical.

David Collier , Chief Operating Officer at Minesto, said: “Leask Marine has a track record for identifying safe, innovative and cost-effective solutions for installing subsea structures in high tidal flows and other marine energy environments. So, I believe that their appointment will be a great asset to the overall project.”

The 500kW project, that will be featuring Minesto’s tidal kite technology, is planned for commissioning and operation in 2018.
