Aker Solutions will supply the subsea production system for the first phase of the Aker BP-operated Ærfugl development offshore Norway.

The oilfield equipment supplier said on Monday the final contract award was subject to government approval of the plan for development and operation (PDO) of Ærfugl.

The subsea system will include wellheads, vertical subsea trees, a tie-in module and an umbilical riser base. The contract includes an option for Ærfugl Phase 2.

Aker Solutions will start the work immediately. The system construction will involve Aker Solutions facilities in Norway, Malaysia and the UK. The parties agreed to not disclose the financial value of the contract, which will be booked in fourth-quarter orders.

As for the Ærfugl field, it is a gas condensate field in the Norwegian Sea, about 210 kilometers offshore Sandnessjøen in Norway.

It will be connected back to the Skarv floating production, storage and offloading vessel operated by Aker BP. The first phase of Ærfugl includes three production wells and is scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2020.

To remind, Aker BP chose “Ærfugl” as the field name for its discovery through a name contest in collaboration with Helgelands magazine, with a total of 88 different name suggestions. Ærfugl in English means eider, or a sea duck species. Aker BP intends to submit the development plan this month.
