Edinburgh University’s School of Engineering is looking to hire a research associate who will work on computer modeling of tidal energy devices.
The research associate will be tasked with developing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) of tidal turbines and floating wind turbines using OpenSource CFD codes with generalized actuator line/disk models of the turbine rotors, according to the University of Edinburgh.
The successful candidate will join the multidisciplinary project team at the Institute for Energy Systems in the School of Engineering which is working on both the €5M Horison-2020 RealTide project and the EPSRC/NSFC ResIn project.
RealTide is focused on delivering design improvements for tidal turbines subjected to real environmental flows and real loadings resulting from turbulence in the flow and wave-current effects.
ResIn, on the other hand, is considering floating offshore wind turbines for Chinese waters. Both projects are developing 3D computational fluid dynamics models of the turbines and subjecting these to realistic environmental flows, the University of Edinburgh states.
The simulations will be compared with bespoke experimental results and, in the case of RealTide field measurements taken around the Sabella tidal turbine.
