An offshore substation topside built by ENGIE Fabricom-Tractebel and Iemants for the Merkur offshore wind farm has been loaded out at ENGIE Fabricom’s yard in Hoboken, Belgium.

The topside is expected to sail out of the Hoboken yard on 22 December, weather permitting, a spokesperson for ENGIE told Offshore WIND.

The substation’s jacket foundation was installed in the German North Sea in October this year.

The joint venture ENGIE Fabricom-Tractebel and Iemants was awarded the contract for the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of the offshore substation and associated jacket for the 396MW Merkur offshore wind project.

The wind farm will comprise 66 Haliade 150-6 megawatt wind turbines installed some 45 kilometres north of the island of Borkum. The wind farm is scheduled for commissioning in 2018.

The owner and developer of the Merkur wind farm is Merkur Offshore GmbH, a joint venture between its shareholders Partners Group, InfraRed Capital Partners, DEME Concessions and Coriolis.
