Japan’s LNG imports drop in November

Japan’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports dropped by 15 percent in November year-on-year, according to the provisional data released by the country’s Ministry of Finance. Japan’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports dropped by 15 percent in November year-on-year, according to the provisional data released by the country’s Ministry of Finance.

The world’s largest buyer of the chilled fuel imported 6.41 million mt of LNG last month as compared to 7.54 million mt in November 2016.

Japan paid about $2.63 billion for LNG imports in November, down 1.4 percent year-on-year.

The country’s coal imports for power generation also dropped in November by 6.4 percent to 9.56 million mt, the data showed.

To remind, the average price of spot LNG imported into Japan that was contracted in November was at $9 per mmBtu, rising 9.8 percent from October.

The arrival-based price has also shown an increase from $6.1 per mmBtu in October to $7.1 per mmBtu last month.
