Chinese engineering company Land Marine Engineering has awarded Nantong Rainbow Offshore & Engineering Equipments with a contract to build a jack-up offshore wind platform.

The four-legged platform will be used during offshore wind farm operations and engineering, including the main base installation, tower, cabin and blade hoisting.

With 120 meters in full length, the jack-up has a maximum lifting capacity table of 600 tonnes, a high maximum lifting capacity of 110 meters above the deck, and is capable of operating in depths of up to 35 meters.

Currently, China ranks third in the world in terms of installed offshore wind capacity, behind the UK and Germany.

At the end of 2016, the country had 1,627MW of installed offshore wind capacity, while the aim is to have 5GW by 2020.

In September, China’s largest offshore wind farm, the 300MW Huaneng Rudong project, was officially put into operation .
