South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries, said it has agreed to sign a deal for the construction of an LNG carrier, priced at 210 billion won ($196.4 million).
The company said in its statement on Thursday that a construction contract for a liquefied natural gas carrier, capable of transporting 180,000 cubic meters of the chilled fuel, within a year.
With the order, the company’s order count for the year 2017 has reached 28 units valued at $6.9 billion, exceeding its annual target of $6.5 billion.
The 2017 orders include eight oil tankers, seven shuttle tankers, six container ships, five LNG carriers including two LNG/FSRU units, as well as one floating production unit (FPU) and a floating LNG facility (FLNG), SHI said.
The order for the Coral FLNG facility booked in June, priced at $2.5 billion, was the largest shipbuilding contract for a single project, Samsung Heavy said.
The LNG carrier orders include two small-scale LNG tankers which will be equipped with the KC-1 liquefied natural gas containment system, and one vessel will have LNG bunkering capabilities.
