Aluminium nacelle covers are lightweight, they provide more space for the nacelle components, and are faster to produce at a lower overall cost, according to Sapa Extrusion, part of the Hydro Group.

The aluminium nacelle cover designed by Sapa Extrusion can help the offshore wind industry become more sustainable and environmentally friendly as well, said Marijn Rietveld, Sapa’s Market Sector Director Marine, Offshore & Rail.

When compared to nacelle covers already on the market, the aluminium cover is lighter, recyclable, and it does not need an internal steel structure for support, Arjan Bouvy, Sapa’s Market Manager, Offshore Marine and Wind Power, said.

The elimination of the galvanized steel beam structure creates much more space, according to Bouvy.

‘’The cover that we have developed consists of multiple pieces, and the complete structure is self-bearing. It saves costs, it saves production time, and it is perfectly recyclable,’’ Bouvy said.
