Taiwan’s Jan-Nov LNG imports up 12 pct

Taiwan imported 15.4 million mt of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the January-November period, up 12.1% from the same period a year before, according to the customs data. Taiwan imported 15.4 million mt of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the January-November period, up 12.1% from the same period a year before, according to the customs data.

Qatar, the world’s largest LNG exporter remained the biggest supplier of the fuel to Taiwan in the period under review, however, Qatari volumes dropped 17% on year.

LNG supplies coming from the port of Ras Laffan in Qatar to Taiwan totaled 4.86 million mt in the 11-month period versus 5.86 million mt the year before, the data by the Directorate General of Customs shows.

Malaysia was the second-biggest supplier of LNG to Taiwan in the period with 2.79 million mt, followed by Indonesia with 2 million mt and Papua New Guinea that supplied 1.79 million mt of the chilled fuel to Taiwan.

The rest of the LNG imports came from Russia, Australia, Brunei, Nigeria, Oman, Trinidad and Tobago, US, Algeria, UAE and Peru.

Taiwan, the world’s fifth largest LNG buyer, paid about $5.87 billion for these LNG imports as compared to $4.48 billion in 2016, according to the data.
