Vineyard Wind is hosting the third in a series of community open house meetings for residents to meet with project staff and hear more about the planned 800MW offshore wind farm some 15 miles from Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, US.
Residents who are interested in learning more about the offshore wind project or have concerns, questions or ideas, can speak directly to project representatives on 22 January from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. local time at the Cape Codder Resort in Hyannis.
Vineyard Wind will build the wind farm together with Iberdrola’s US-based subsidiary Avangrid Renewables, who acquired a 50% stake in the from Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) last May.
In December last year, the two developers submitted a proposal to deliver power generated by the 800MW offshore wind farm, shortly after they applied for federal and state construction permits with the US Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities’ Energy Facilities Siting Board for the construction of the project.
By filing for the permits, Vineyard Wind says it is on track for completing the permitting process in time to begin construction in 2019, with which the project would become the first commercial large-scale offshore wind farm in the United States.
