Marine Energy Wales has praised the financial support pledge from the Welsh government for the Swansea Bay tidal lagoon as a positive step forward for the marine energy industry.
One year on from the Hendry Review , the First Minister for Wales Carwyn Jones committed to a substantial investment to cover some of the tidal lagoon’s capital costs, while at the same time urging the UK government to grant the project the green light.
Marine Energy Wales has expressed strong support for the announcement which, according to the organization, adds to the wider support for marine energy in Wales.
David Jones , Project Director at Marine Energy Wales, said: “With this announcement Welsh government have shown they are willing to back the lagoon, not just with policy and warm words but with investment.”
Martin Murphy , Chair of Marine Energy Wales, added: “Welsh government recognizes the role marine energy can play in boosting the maritime economy, supporting supply chain innovation, diversification and clustering and the opportunity to export Welsh and UK products and services to a global market.”
Marine Energy Wales was launched in November 2016 to drive forward the development of Welsh marine energy sector.
