Kongsberg has received an order to deliver technology upgrades for three platform supply vessels (PSV) owned by Mantenimiento Express Marítimo (Mexmar), Seacor Marine’s JV in Mexico.

Kongsberg said on Thursday that this contract follows a September 2017 deal for the same upgrade package on the Seacor Maya PSV.

The contract for the Seacor Maya was for the integration of a new hybrid power solution designed by Kongsberg to meet strict environmental regulations by decreasing CO2, NOx, and SOx emissions.

Under the new contract, the company will deliver and install a hybrid power and DP upgrade designed to enhance energy efficiency on board the Seacor Azteca, Seacor Warrior, and Seacor Viking.

According to Kongsberg, after the completion of the four vessel conversions, Mexmar will be the only PSV owner in the Americas able to meet strict environmental regulations for decreasing CO2, NOx, and SOx emissions. The conversion of the Seacor Maya will begin in January while the other three will be completed in July.

Since Kongsberg is the single supplier for the upgrades, the company will supply and fully integrate the energy storage system with a custom designed energy control system, and the existing dynamic positioning and integrated automation system, both of which will be upgraded as part of the contract.

Tim Clerc , manager of engineering at Seacor Marine, said: “We are confident in the energy saving and safety elements of Kongsberg’s hybrid technology for Seacor Maya and keen to start migration of more of our vessels to this unique, environmentally friendly and highly efficient power solution.

“We will soon have four vessels operating on the most advanced hybrid powertrain available, offering capabilities and efficiency not available on any other PSVs operating in the Americas.”
