The government of Denmark has opened the first round of applications for the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (EUDP) to support green innovation in the energy sector.
Through the EUDP public grant scheme, Denmark has put €30.9 million (DKK 230 million) up for grabs for energy innovators which can apply for the funding support until March 2, 2018.
The funds are offered to all technologies related to the green energy conversion, with plans for the second allocation round launch for the program set for September 2018.
Lars Christian Lilleholt , Danish Minister of Energy, Utilities and Climate, said: “Denmark has joined the international cooperation Mission Innovation, whose task is to strengthen international cooperation on new energy research. The EUDP plays a major role in the government’s efforts to double energy research funds by 2020.“
“Denmark is focusing on the development of energy technologies as part of the green transformation of our energy policy. But, we know that many ideas and technologies need help in launch. Therefore, the funds from the EUDP pool are an important investment both in the climate and in Danish jobs.”
Earlier evaluations of EUDP-supported projects have shown that the program helps increase export of Danish energy technology, while also creating growth and employment in Denmark, according to the country’s energy department.
Recent studies show that the EUDP program creates an increased turnover of 2.7 dollars for each grant crown that is distributed, the department noted.
The EUDP scheme will award €53.7 million (DKK 400 million) this year, according to the Danish government, which also said it plans to increase the amount to €67.2 million (DKK 500 million) by 2020.
