Italian oil company Eni is searching for a rig to drill an exploration well on its Rowallan gas condensate prospect in the Central North Sea planned for the second half of this year.

The Rowallan prospect is located in the east of Block 22/19c, and comprises a significant structural fault and dip-closed trap analogous to the large Culzean field development located 20km to the SSE. Water depth at the site is 100 meters.

Eni is the operator of the block with a 40% interest with Serica (15%), JX Nippon (25%), and Mitsui (20%) as its partners.

Eni’s partner, Serica, said on Monday that the site survey for the Rowallan prospect was completed in December 2017.

Furthermore, the company said that a tender process is underway to contract a drilling rig to start the high pressure, high temperature, exploration well on Rowallan in the second half of 2018. Long lead items have been ordered in preparation for drilling. Expected drill time from spud to target is approximately 100 days.

Serica is fully carried with a 15% interest in this high-pressure, high-temperature well. The prospect has been independently assessed to contain best estimate prospective resources of 19.7 million boe net to Serica. According to Serica, a Rowallan discovery could deliver production into the 2030s.
