Oil company Lundin has exercised its first option in a contract for the COSL Drilling-owned drilling rig COSLInnovator. The rig will be used to drill two wells offshore Norway.
Lundin hired the semi-submersible drilling rig for one well offshore Norway back in July 2017. The contract contained an extension option for eight more wells.
Following reports that Lundin has exercised its first option for the COSLInnovator, Offshore Energy Today reached out to the rig owner seeking confirmation and further details about the operations that the rig is about to start for Lundin.
COSL Drilling Europe CEO, Jørgen Arnesen , confirmed the reports about the rig’s first option, adding that the commencement window starts on February 1, 2018.
Arnesen also said that the COSLInnovator is currently performing its last preparations prior to sailing. The rig will be used to drill the Luno 2 and Rolvsnes wells.
Lundin has already received consent from the Norwegian offshore safety regulator, the PSA, to use the rig for well 16/4-11 in production license 359 in the North Sea as well as a drilling permit for the appraisal well from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).
The COSLInnovator was constructed at the Yantai Raffles Shipyard in China. It was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the PSA in 2012.
