Seaway Heavy Lifting has installed the first of the two jacket foundations which will support the Siemens Offshore Transformer Modules (OTMs) on the Beatrice offshore wind farm in the Outer Moray Firth, Scotland.

The jacket foundation for the OTM was loaded onto a barge at BiFab’s yard in Fife in late January.

The 588MW wind farm will comprise 84 Siemens Gamesa 7MW wind turbines and two Siemens OTMs installed on jacket foundations.

The OTMs are one third smaller in size and weight compared to conventional alternating-current (AC) platforms.

The first wind turbines at the Beatrice offshore wind farm are scheduled to be installed in summer 2018, with the wind farm expected to be commissioned by the end of 2019.

The wind farm is being developed by Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd., a joint venture partnership between SSE, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Red Rock Power Ltd.
