US-based energy company Chevron, the operator of the Wheatstone LNG export project, has reportedly sold a first gas condensate cargo from the LNG facility in Western Australia.
The 650,000-barrel gas condensate cargo will be loaded in February and has been sold to Thailand’s PTT, Reuters reported on Monday citing trade sources.
Chevron has chartered an Aframax-sized oil tanker Maersk Princess to load condensate from Australia on February 21 and that is likely to be for the PTT sale, the report said.
LNG World News has invited Chevron for a comment. A Chevron spokesperson said that due to commercial reasons the company does not comment on its operational or marketing activities.
Chevron previously said it expects to fire-up the second production unit at Wheatstone plant in Western Australia’s Pilbara region in the second quarter of this year.
According to Chevron, the fourth-quarter production at the Wheatstone plant in Western Australia’s Pilbara region averaged 32,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day while January production was at 86,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Once in full capacity, the LNG plant is expected to produce 8.9 million tonnes per annum of LNG.
Eighty percent of Wheatstone’s foundation capacity is fed with natural gas from the Wheatstone and Iago fields, while the remaining 20 percent of gas will be supplied from the Julimar and Brunello fields.
