Construction is progressing on the Tangguh expansion project which includes the addition of a third train at the BP-operated LNG export facility in Indonesia.
The expansion project will add a liquefaction unit of 3.8 million tons per annum (mtpa) of production capacity to the existing facility in Papua Barat Province, bringing total plant capacity to 11.4 mtpa.
The project also includes two offshore platforms, 13 new production wells, an expanded LNG loading facility, and supporting infrastructure.
The UK-based energy giant BP on Thursday shared two images via its social media channels showing the construction progress of one of the two platforms for the expansion project due to start up by mid-2020.
The platform was named the Wiriager Deep A platform, according to BP.
To remind, BP and its partners made a final investment decision to expand the LNG project in 2016.
Consequently, the JV partners awarded two contracts for the onshore part and offshore segment of the project.
The onshore EPC contract was signed with a joint venture led by the Indonesian contractor Tripatra with, Chiyoda, Saipem and Suluh Ardhi Engineering. The offshore contract went to Italy’s Saipem.
Besides BP, the other partners in Tangguh are MI Berau (16.30%), CNOOC Muturi (13.90%), Nippon Oil Exploration (Berau) (12.23%), KG Berau Petroleum (8.56%), KG Wiriagar Petroleum Ltd (1.44%) and Indonesia Natural Gas Resources Muturi Inc. (7.35%).
