Spain’s imports of liquefied natural gas rose by 9.5 percent in January on a yearly basis, according to the data provided by the LNG terminal operator, Enagás.
LNG imports reached 15.82 terawatt hours (TWh) in January as compared to 14.45 TWh in the same month the year before, the data shows.
Breaking down the LNG imports by countries, Nigeria was the biggest supplier to Spain and these volumes rose 41.8 percent on year to 6.79 TWh.
The second place belongs to Algeria with supplies surging to 3.64 TWh in January, up from just 0.5 TWh the year before.
Qatar and Peru supplied 1.77 TWh and 1.7 TWh, respectfully, while Trinidad volumes reached 0.88 TWh.
The Barcelona regasification plant received 7 LNG cargoes out of the total 19 cargoes imported into Spain during the month under review.
Barcelona also reloaded one rare LNG cargo of 1.07 TWh in January. According to the Enagás monthly data, there had not been a large reload in Spain since October 2017 when the Cartagena plant reloaded one cargo equal to about 0.98 TWh.
The Huelva regasification facility handled 5 cargoes in January while Cartagena received 3 cargoes. Bilbao plant and Mugardos received 2 cargoes, each.
