Twenty-five passengers sustained injuries in an explosion that ripped through a ferry on Wednesday while passengers were disembarking in Playa del Carmen, a popular resort in Mexico, local authorities informed.

Based on the initial reports there have been no fatalities and the majority of injured passengers, which include 20 tourists and five Mexicans, reported minor injuries.

However, one passenger of Mexican nationality is said to have sustained second and third-degree facial burns and is in critical condition.

The tourist ferry belongs to a local company Barcos Caribe, ABC News reported.

The local prosecutor’s office and police authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the blast.
