Seagreen Wind Energy Limited will apply to Scottish Ministers to vary the existing Seagreen Alpha and Seagreen Bravo consents that would allow the combined maximum capacity of the two wind farms to be increased from 1,050MW to 1,500MW.

Seagreen Wind, a joint venture partnership between SSE and Fluor Limited, said the proposed changes would enable the use of advances in wind turbine design since the original consent application was submitted in 2012.

The developer now proposes to install up to 75 wind turbines with up to 167m rotor diameter, or up to 70 wind turbines with up to 220m rotor diameter, in each project.

Seagreen Wind also added monopile foundations to the mix, alongside previously proposed jacket, gravity base or suction caisson foundations. If approved, Seagreen would use monopile foundations on up to 70 locations.

The application to vary the existing Alpha and Bravo offshore wind farm consents will be submitted to Marine Scotland this spring, together with the Environmental Impact Assessment Report, Seagreen said.

The two wind farms are located in the Firth of Forth Zone some 25km from the Angus coastline.
