Liberia-flagged containership MSC Madrid collided with a Ro-Ro ship Primula Seaways on Saturday morning, March 3, while heading to Antwerp, Belgium.
The collision occurred while the two vessels were sailing in the vicinity of Vlissingen, Netherlands.
The 5,500 TEU containership sustained damage to its bow while the Ro-Ro ship suffered a major blow to its port side.
The Belgian authorities are investigating the cause of the incident and have boarded both ships to inspect radar data.
No injuries to the crew and no pollution have been reported at this stage.
Based on the latest AIS data from the two ships, MSC Madrid continued its voyage after the incident ans has reached Antwerp, while the Danish-flagged Primula Seaways is moored in Ghent.
Primula Seaways, built in 2004, is owned by Danish DFDS, while MSC Madrid is listed as part of Offen Claus-Peter’s fleet, data from Vesselsvalue shows.

DFDS-owned ferry Primula Seaways was involved in a collision with Panama-flagged car carrier City of Rotterdam early December 2015.
In November 2017, the pilot and the captain of the car carrier received suspended sentences of four months in prison each, which was suspended to 18 months subsequently.
The two senior officers pleaded guilty to conduct endangering a ship and misconduct by a pilot endangering a ship.
