Jumbo, an offshore transportation and installation contractor, has appointed Huisman Equipment for the design and construction of two offshore mast cranes for its heavy lift crane vessel (HLCV) to be delivered in the first quarter of 2020.
To remind, Jumbo signed a letter of intent with China Merchants Industry Holdings in December 2017 for the engineering and construction of the HLCV.
It is worth noting that the new HLCV was designed in cooperation with Ulstein Design and Solutions.
Announcing the deal with Huisman, Jumbo said that the main crane of the HLVC would have a 2,500t capacity. Furthermore, Jumbo has opted for a triple hoist to allow complex upending operations and chose for an active heave compensation (AHC) auxiliary block of 600mt with a depth rating of 3,000 meters.
The second subsea crane will have the capacity for 400t with an AHC main hoist to control the position of a load relative to the seabed. This crane, positioned to easily service the moon pool, will also have a depth rating of 3,000 meters and will be equipped with a man-riding whip hoist.
Michael Kahn , managing director of Jumbo, said: “Our new HLCV, equipped with these cutting-edge cranes, enables Jumbo to further step-up, scale-up and diversify into the global offshore energy market.”
Jumbo added that environmental considerations and improved fuel efficiency were also factored into the design and that the vessel would be powered by dual-fuel engines with the ability to run on LNG.
According to the company, with a vessel length of 185 meters and a width of 36 meters, the HLCV will be the world’s largest X-BOW vessel.
