Liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports into South Korea rose 27 percent in February year-on-year, according to the customs data.
The country received 4.59 million tonnes of LNG in February, as compared to 3.60 million tonnes in the corresponding month the year before.
Qatar, the world’s largest LNG exporter, Qatar, remained the dominant source of South Korean imports with 1.48 million mt of the chilled fuel imported from Qatar in February. These volumes rose by 0.20 million tonnes as compared to last year.
LNG deliveries from Australia rose by 0.38 million tonnes to total 0.95 million tonnes while imports from Oman remained almost flat at 0.42 million tonnes.
The US supplied 0.41 million tonnes of the fuel during the month under review. There were no imports from the US in February 2017, according to to the data.
The rest of South Korea’s LNG deliveries in February were sourced from Indonesia, Russia, Malaysia, France, Nigeria, Peru, Brunei, Norway, Egypt and the UK.
