Fourchon LNG granted FTA export permit

Fourchon LNG, an Energy World company, has been granted a permit by the Department of Energy to export LNG from its proposed facility at Port Fourchon, Louisiana.

Fourchon LNG, an Energy World company, has been granted a permit by the Department of Energy to export LNG from its proposed facility at Port Fourchon, Louisiana.

The company sought a permit to export approximately 260 billion cubic feet of natural gas per year for a 30-year period to countries with which the United States have a free trade agreement (FTA).

According to the company’s filing, it is also sought a 20-year export permit to non-FTA countries, adding the export volumes would not be additive.

The company had also requested an additional three-year period, beyond the export term to ship any volumes that have not been exported by the project during the authorized export period.

The Department of Energy has authorized the FTA export portion, noting that the authorization to export domestically produced LNG to non-FTA countries will be reviewed and addressed in a separate order.

The natural gas liquefaction and export facility proposed for the southern tip of Port Fourchon at Belle Pass, in Lafourche Parish, would have a peak capacity of approximately 260 billion cubic feet of natural gas per year, or 5 million tons of LNG.

The project is set to be developed in phases with the first phase to have a 2 mtpa production capacity with remaining LNG trains to be developed according to the demand. Each train would have a 0.5 mtpa capacity.

The facility would also include two 88,000-cbm storage tanks, marine loading facility with a single ship berth and a maneuvering basin.

The company expects the Phase 1 production to start by the end of 2021 while full production capacity is expected to be reached by mid-2023.
