Pinellas County is about to hold a meeting regarding the upcoming Sand Key and Treasure Island beach nourishment project.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 28, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the Indian Shores Municipal Facility.

The nourishment project is expected to cost $51 million with the Federal government paying $40.1 million and the County and State each paying $5.7 million.

Norfolk Dredging was selected to construct the 2018 Sand Key and Treasure Island Nourishment Projects. The contractor anticipates mobilizing to the site on April 1, 2018 and start of the dredging around April 15, 2018.

They plan to begin in Treasure Island first filling Sunshine Beach and Sunset Beach with sand dredged from John’s Pass. Next, they will begin nourishing North Redington Beach with sand from the Egmont Shoal Borrow area and work from south to north, finishing at the Ultimar Condo in Clearwater.

In total, construction is expected to last 5-7 months and will place over 1.3 million cubic yards of sand.
