Watch: Mexico’s shallow water bid round

Mexico is on Tuesday hosting the opening of bids for awarding its shallow oil and gas exploration acreage to the international and domestic oil companies.

Mexico is on Tuesday hosting the opening of bids for awarding its shallow oil and gas exploration acreage to the international and domestic oil companies. You can watch the event on Offshore Energy Today, starting 16:00hrs CET (8h Mexico City time).

The bidding round will see the tender of 35 contractual areas in shallow waters as shared-production contracts. The contractual areas are divided into three sectors: Burgos, Tampico-Misantla-Veracruz, and Southeast Basin.

For the First Tender of Round 3, 21 companies were registered as 36 bidders: 14 individual companies and 22 in a consortium.

The final list includes 14 bidders approved to participate as individual companies, and 22 as bidders in a consortium. In total, 36 companies from 14 countries will participate.

The 14 individual bidders are BP, Capricorn Energy, Chevron, Deutsche Erdoel, ECP Hidrocarburos, Eni, ONGC Videsh, Pan Amercian Energy, Petronas, Pemex, Premier Oil, Repsol, Shell, Total.

Other companies, that will be taking part as bidding consortia with other oil firms include the likes of Lukoil, Inpex, Pemex, Sapura Energy, Cepsa, and Citla Energy.

According to Mexico’s National Hydrocarbons Commission, 17 of the 21 registered companies have won contracts in previous bidding rounds (in Mexico). Also, this is the first time Malaysian company Sapura Exploration and Production will participate in a bidding process in the country.
