The Danish Coast Guard has published images showing the extent of damages sustained by the two ships that collided on Tuesday, March 27, in the Great Belt strait in Denmark.
The ships involved in the collision have been identified as 1,924 TEU boxship Delphis Gdansk and Handysize bulk carrier BBC Neptune.
The Liberia-flagged bulker, which was bound for Gothenburg, sustained a blow to the aft side of its bow, which was considerably damaged.
The Hong Kong-flagged containership, which was underway to St. Pteresburg, Russia, sustained damages to the aft side of the hull, closer to its stern. The crash caused several containers to tumble down from the boxship, with some of them ripped apart and clinging from the bulker.
Based on the latest update from the coast guard, the two ships have been removed from the shipping route and the situation is under control. There have been no injuries reported to the crew and no traces of an oil spill.
Activities are being prepared to retrieve the lost containers from the water, which pose a navigational hazard in the strait.
The two ships remain at anchor in the area, based on their latest AIS data.
As informed, the cause of the collision is yet to be determined.
