Policies put in place by the Trump administration have brought energy to the top of U.S. exports in the coming years, energy secretary Rick Perry said.

The United States have recently become the net exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), however, additional investments in new pipelines, railway and ports to fully realize the energy potential.

“America now has two substantial LNG export facilities in operation, Sabine Pass, spanning the border between Texas and Louisiana, and Cove Point in Maryland are currently loading LNG tankers for the international market,” Perry said.

Six more are under construction and are nearly ready for commercial operation. Once online, these facilities will enable the export of more than 10 billion cubic feet of LNG per day to international markets.

According to a report by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), U.S. exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) reached 1.94 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2017, up from 0.5 Bcf/d in 2016.

As export capacity continues to increase, the United States is projected to become the third-largest LNG exporter in the world by 2020, surpassing Malaysia and remaining behind only Australia and Qatar.
