Ørsted’s Greater Changhua offshore wind projects in Taiwan are in the contracting process of TWD 3 billion (approximately EUR 83.6 million) onshore substation EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contract, the Danish company said.
According to Ørsted, three Taiwanese companies are in the final stage to bid for the contract.
The grid capacity and permits for the projects are expected in the first half of this year, while the EPC contract for the first onshore substation is scheduled to be signed in the third quarter, the company said.
Ørsted has recently assigned CR Classification Society to perform a structural review of the offshore substation design for the projects, who will work together with DNV GL to conduct the review by the end of 2018.
The Greater Changhua offshore wind projects include four sites located 35 to 60km off the Changhua coast, with the total capacity of up to 2.4GW.
Earlier in February, Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration concluded the review process and approved the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the projects.
Subject to Ørsted’s final investment decision, construction of the first of the four projects could start as early as 2019.
