Balearia’s first of two LNG-fuelled ferries, Hypatia de Alejandría, has been floated out at the Italian shipyard Cantiere Navale Visentini.

Now the vessel will undergo final outfitting as it nears its delivery date set for early 2019.

The Spanish owner is investing around EUR 200 million in the two eco-efficient ‘smartships’ which will be the first gas-propelled RoRo passenger ferries operating in the Mediterranean Sea, and among the largest ferries in Europe.

The new ferry is a sister ship to Marie Curie.

Featuring a length of 186.5 meters, the vessel will be able to reach a maximum speed of 24 knots and will have a capacity for 810 people.
