Oil company Aker BP has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to drill an exploration well in the Barents Sea with the Deepsea Stavanger drilling rig.
The well is located in block 7221 in production license 659 in the Barents Sea where Aker BP is the operator.
The offshore safety body has now given its consent to Aker BP to drill the exploration well designated as 7221/12-1, in a prospect named Svanefjell.
The drilling site is 65 kilometers north-north-east of Snøhvit field in a water depth of 345 meters. Drilling is scheduled to begin in April 2018.
The PSA added that the well would be drilled by the Deepsea Stavanger semi-submersible drilling rig.
Deepsea Stavanger is of the GVA 7500 type, built in South Korea in 2010, owned and operated by Odfjell Drilling. The PSA issued Deepsea Stavanger an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in March 2017.
