Wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) Pacific Orca has started installing wind turbine towers on Vattenfall’s European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) in the Aberdeen Bay.

Pacific Orca loaded the first turbine components for the wind farm in the Port of Esbjerg, Denmark, in mid-March.

The jack-up is installing the towers on suction bucket foundations, the first of which was recently installed by the floating crane Asian Hercules III.

Located some three kilometers off Aberdeen, EOWDC , also known as the Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm, will comprise eleven MHI Vestas 8.4MW turbines inter-connected by 66kV inter-array cables.

The 92.5MW wind farm is expected to generate first power this summer and operate for 20 years.
