China Steel Corporation (CSC) has held a groundbreaking ceremony for an offshore wind foundations manufacturing plant in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Located in Xingda Harbor, the new facility will have an annual production capacity of around 50 jacket foundations, CSC said. The factory is expected to be completed in 2019.

CSC is the main investor in the new facility and will set aside some TWD 3.42 billion (EUR 94 million) for the project.

In October 2017, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and CSC agreed to collaborate on the 500MW offshore wind Zone number 29.

One month later, CSC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ørsted under which the two companies will work jointly to ensure that CSC’s production lines are ready in 2020 to manufacture and assemble underwater foundation substructures for the four Greater Changhua wind farms with a combined capacity of 2.4GW.

Taiwan has set a target of 5.5 GW of offshore wind power to be ready by 2025, with the allocation of the necessary grid connection capacity planned for the first half of 2018.
