Tian E Zuo, an oil products tanker flagged in Hong Kong, had its hull punctured by a floating crane, on Friday, April 13 while anchored in Khor al Zubayr port, Iraq.

The 2012-built LR1 tanker is owned by China’s Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation.

Based on the video footage of the incident, shown below, the crane vessel breached the tanker’s hull resulting in ballast water gushing from the starboard. The crane vessel was seen heading uncontrollably into the tanker without an intention of changing direction. Initial reports indicate that the vessel had broken loose from a tug, before it hit the tanker.

Tian E Zuo’s latest AIS data from Marine Traffic indicates that the 75,600 dwt tanker has moved to Sharjah anchorage, United Arab Emirates, where it will most probably undergo repairs. The LR1 vessel has been chartered by Lukoil in February 2018 for one year at USD 13,500 per day, data from VesselsValue shows.
