Norther N.V. has shared a video showing the transformers being lifted into the Offshore High Voltage Station (OHVS) for the Norther offshore wind farm located in the Belgian North Sea.

The OHVS topside is being fabricated at Engie Fabricom’s yard in Hoboken, Belgium.

Van Oord is the EPCI (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation) contractor for the wind farm’s foundations, the OHVS, and the inter-array and export cables.

Sif and Smulders are in charge of the production of foundations and transition pieces, while Van Oord intends to deploy its offshore installation vessel Aeolus and cable-laying vessel Nexus for the transport and installation of the foundations and turbines.

The Final Investment Decision (FID) for the project was reached in December 2016, when MHI Vestas won a contract to provide 44 of its V164-8.0 MW turbines optimized to deliver a maximum output of 8.4MW.

Located some 23km from the port of Zeebrugge, the 370MW Norther offshore wind farm is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, when it will become Belgium’s largest wind farm.

The wind farm is being developed by Norther N.V., a joint venture between Elicio and Boreas with three sponsors, including Elicio NV (50%), Eneco (25%) and Mitsubishi Corporation (25%).
