Offshore driller Stena Drilling has signed a contract with Total E&P UK for its Stena Don drilling rig.

The driller said on Wednesday that the Stena Don rig will drill the Glendronach prospect which is located West of Shetland. The duration is approximately 80-120 days and will start mid/end May 2018.

Stena Drilling noted that working on this campaign represents a great new opportunity for Stena Don on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).

Stena Drilling decided to move the Stena Don from Norway last year due to the limited opportunities in Norway during 2018 in order to lay-up the rig and pursue alternative international opportunities.

The rig owner has not revealed further details about its contract with Total.

The Stena Don is a harsh environment dynamically positioned Class 3 semi-submersible drilling rig which has a capability for a water depth up to 1640ft. It was built by Kvaerner Warnow Werft Shipyard in Germany in 2001 .
