Siemens Gamesa has awarded Windhoist Limited with a contract to carry out wind turbine pre-assembly work for the Beatrice wind farm, which marks the Scottish company’s first offshore wind engagement.
Under the contract, Windhoist will provide onshore pre-construction support for 84 Siemens 7MW turbines to be deployed at the wind farm in the Scottish Moray Firth.
The project, scheduled to start this month, is expected to sustain over 40 jobs during its ten-month duration.

The Scottish company said that it has worked with Scottish Enterprise in order develop understanding of the offshore wind market, as well as take advantage of emerging opportunities within the renewables sector.
In 2016, Siemens won a contract for the supply of wind turbines and grid access solution for the Beatrice wind farm, and shortly after signed a deal to use the Nigg Energy Park fabrication yard on the Cromarty Firth during the construction of the project.
The first turbines for the 588MW offshore wind project are scheduled for installation this summer, with the wind farm expected to be fully commissioned in 2019.
