Mingyang Wind Power has installed what the company described as the world’s largest typhoon-resistant wind turbine – the MySE5.5-155 – offshore the Fujian Province in China.

The 5.5MW smart turbine is the first of the two Mingyang is installing on the 79.4MW Fujian Xinghua Gulf (Fuqing Xinghua Bay) demo wind farm, according to local media.

This semi-direct drive turbine is described as lightweight and smaller in size compared to other units with similar capacity.

The length of the blades is 76.6 metres, Mingyang said.

The design of the turbine was inspired by the aerospace industry, the turbine maker said.
